N is For Networking

I don't know if you believe in karma, but you should definitely believe in NETWORKING. I happen to believe in bot hand I am about to explain why.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get a job through my father. Yeah, I know, he's my dad so obviously he would get me a job. Wrong. There was a broker that needed an assistant and he passed along my resume. I was hired based off of my experience and the skills that she desired an assistant to have. What's important to note here is the fact that I used networking to HELP me get TO the position, but not to GET the position.

Whether you choose to believe it or not, NETWORKING makes the working world go round and because work makes our individual lives go around, basically it's extremely important. Some of you might ask the question, "why do I need to network if I already have a good resume?," Others might just think it's too time consuming. Well, yes, it's time consuming, but it's going to help you get a job and then you will be spending less time job hunting, and more time making money.

The reality is that everyone our age is already NETWORKING without even realizing it. When you spend hours upon hours updating your Facebook status, tweeting your followers on Twitter, repinning your favorite pins on Pinterest, or even commenting on users videos on YouTube; you're NETWORKING. "Oh really?," you ask. Yep, Dictionary.com say's it all right here.

It's time to wake up and smell the connections people! If you think you already have by just using the social networking sites that I mentioned above, you are seriously mistaken. It is CRUCIAL that you get a LinkedIn profile and it's not just because I said so. In fact, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

It is very simple and not very time consuming to make a profile. Your profile acts as your living and breathing resume. Why is this awesome? Because there are hundreds of thousands of employers that are waiting to check yours out. Once you're all set up, you can feel free to connect with your friends, family, past business partners and bosses, and anyone that you might be interested in working for. It's very legit because most won't linkin with you until they have met you. If that isn't enough of a reason to join, not that people that are connected to one another can recommend connections of theirs to others. Also, feel free to job hunt on the site as you can apply directly with your profile.

It's all true, so don't make the mistake of not hopping on board. It's your ticket and it's free.
